Honors Program Scholarships

 

The Gladys Brooks Foundation Scholarship

The Gladys Brooks Foundation has provided Kingsborough Community College Foundation, Inc. the sum of $100,000 to establish The Gladys Brooks Foundation Scholarship Endowment for Student Leadership and Academic Excellence.

The Gladys Brooks Foundation Scholarship shall be administered to select Kingsborough Community College Honors Program scholars with the goal of supporting academic excellence and will annually provide 2-3 continuing scholars with a one-time $1,000 scholarship. The scholarship eligibility requirements are as follows:

  • Be enrolled in the Honors Program
  • Have a minimum GPA of 3.2 and participate in Honors-designated courses
  • Have completed at least twelve academic credits
  • Have a demonstrated record of leadership and excellence in civic engagement
  • Have a completed FAFSA on file

Joseph Hinkley Commuter to Campus Scholarship

The Joseph Hinkley Commuter to Campus Scholarship is a $5,000 transfer scholarship opportunity for students planning to transfer to colleges and universities outside of New York City:

Eligibility Criteria:

  • GPA of 2.5 and above
  • Demonstrated financial need
  • Graduating student who plans to attend a 4-year college or university outside of New York City
  • Meet CUNY guidelines and regulations as they pertain to receiving financial support

How to Apply:

  • Scholarship requires a compelling essay, maximum 2-pages, on why it is important for you to continue your education outside of New York City and how you plan to make a difference in your community
  • Submit a letter of recommendation from an instructor or academic advisor

Walters-Doehrman Scholarship

The Walters and Doehrman Scholarship was established by Dr. Barbara R. Walters and her family through the Eugene Walters Family Foundation. Dr. Barbara R. Walters is Professor of Sociology at Kingsborough Community College and served for six years as Academic Director of Sociology at the CUNY School of Professional Studies, at the request of the President and Provost of Kingsborough Community College. 

The Walters-Doehrman Scholarship was established by Dr. Barbara Walters to provide awards to graduating honors students in need.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Graduating honors student (GPA of least 3.2)
  • Must have demonstrated financial need
  • Must meet CUNY regulations and guidelines as it pertains to receiving financial support
