Important 60th Commencement Updates
May 13, 2025
Dear Campus Community,
We are less than 40 days away from the 60th Commencement on Wednesday, June 18 at the Coney Island Amphitheater. I am thrilled to share your official invitation to this milestone ceremony with more exciting news and ways that you can celebrate and support the amazing Class of 2025.

Please Share These Important Updates With Your Students
The deadline to apply for graduation is Friday, May 16. Students can apply for graduation here: www.kbcc.cuny.edu/registrar/graduate_this_semester.html.
The deadline to order and pick up their cap and gown on campus has passed. The final deadline to order a cap and gown for home delivery is Tuesday, June 3. There is no charge for their cap and gown, however, payment of the shipping fee is required. Students can order a cap and gown here: https://colleges.herffjones.com/college/kcc.
Faculty Speaker

It is my honor to announce that Dr. Catherine Ma will serve as faculty speaker at the 60th Commencement. Dr. Ma is the first Chinese full professor of psychology at Kingsborough Community College, an active board member of the Asian American/Asian Research Institute of CUNY, and the recipient of the 2022 Two-Year College Teaching and Mentoring Excellence Award from the Society for the Psychological Study of Social Issues (SPSSI). Her dedication to community and education is exemplified by her ongoing work with Kingsborough’s Women’s Center, student mentoring, mentoring junior faculty from historically underrepresented groups, parenting workshops, and the creation of the Yuet Chun & Tai Yee Ma Memorial Endowment Fund to honor her grandparents and benefit KCC’s immigrant students. Thanks in advance to Dr. Ma for bringing greetings on behalf of the faculty.
Ways to Celebrate the Class of 2025
There are several ways to celebrate and show support for our graduates as we honor their
hard work and achievements:
Join the Commencement Processional: Faculty and staff are invited to participate in the processional while wearing academic
regalia. RSVP to march in the processional by 5 p.m. on Friday, May 30.
Serve as a Volunteer: Play a critical role in making the day special for our students and guests by volunteering at the ceremony. Sign up to volunteer by 5 p.m. on Tuesday, May 27.
Campus Watch Party: Unable to come to the Coney Island Amphitheater in person? You can still participate by joining us on campus to watch the commencement livestream at our watch party. RSVP to watch by 5 p.m. on Friday, May 30
Be a Part of #WaveCapWednesday
Take a photo with the Kingsborough Wave Cap. Designed by graduating student Olivia Hercules, the Wave Cap pays tribute to our iconic wave logo and salutes the Class of 2025. This bedazzled cap is traveling across campus as faculty, staff, and students take photos with it while waving. By participating, you’re creating a wave of support for our graduates as they embark on their journey ahead. The Wave Cap’s final stop will be the 60th Commencement, where some of the best “waves” will be showcased. The deadline to submit your Wave Cap photo is Thursday, May 15. Visit here for submission guidelines.

Participate in the Kingsborough Tapestry Project
This beautiful tapestry square was created by the Child Development Center. Make your own and enhance our sense of campus community through collage. Your collage square will be photographed and included in a large mural-sized tapestry that will be displayed in the Hall of Flags and featured during the 60th Commencement. Graduating students can use their own squares to decorate their graduation caps! The deadline to submit your tapestry collage square is Tuesday, June 3. Sign up to request the collage cart and start making your collage for the Kingsborough Tapestry Project.
Coat of Dreams
Finally, our Fashion Design and Business of Fashion students will debut the Coat of Dreams at the Spring 2025 Fashion Show on Tuesday, May 27 at 3 p.m. in the MAC Rotunda, which you are invited to attend. Designed and constructed in a collaboration between Professors Michael Palladino and Sharon Parker, the Coat of Dreams is made from upcycled cotton canvas fabric. It will be covered with upcycled fabric patches embellished by students and other KCC community members. Each patch reflects a personal dream realized while at KCC. All patches will be attached to the coat to narrate the story of Kingsborough Community College—its past, present, and future. For more information, contact michael.palladino@kbcc.cuny.edu or deniz.sak@kbcc.cuny.edu.
Warm regards,
