ABOUT US

Mission Statement

The mission of Student Wellness Services (SWS) is to promote and support students’ physical, social, emotional, and psychological health and well-being during their time at Kingsborough Community College. We offer direct clinical care, provide referrals to campus and local resources, and assist the larger campus community through outreach, education, consultation, and prevention programs. By initiating dialogues, offering safe spaces, and facilitating workshops and other events, we aim to familiarize stakeholders with our protocols and services, educate the community about health and mental health issues, and reduce the stigma associated with help-seeking.

Meet Our Staff

Licensed mental and medical health professionals including registered nurses, psychologists, and clinical social workers provide or supervise all services. We also have a health educator, helpful and friendly support staff, and masters-level counseling trainees to support students’ health, mental health, and general wellness needs.

ELIGIBILITY FOR SERVICES

All students, currently registered for at least one class at Kingsborough Community College are eligible for free, confidential, and voluntary services at SWS. Although our therapeutic services are suited to many issues that students face, some issues require services that we do not offer. When this is the case, SWS works with students to identify referrals to appropriate resources and treatments.

If services are being offered remotely, the student must be physically located in New York State. Practice licenses are dictated by the location of the client/patient along with the counselor. We are not licensed to practice in other states or countries, nor do we have the resources to explore the specific laws regulating telehealth practice/data privacy in other locations. Academic services and workshops are available to all registered students regardless of location.

For more information or updates about events and support sessions, please call 718.368.5975 or email Counseling.Center@kbcc.cuny.edu.
