Services are always voluntary, free, and confidential. Sessions are generally about 45 minutes long and held once a week with a licensed or supervised clinician. During this time of remote learning, sessions are done either on the phone or via zoom.
Our counselors are people who care and listen to you in a safe, private, and non-judgmental atmosphere. We can help you clarify issues and identify goals from an objective point of view. We can also help teach you healthy strategies to effectively cope with your situation.
Voluntary
While we understand that college can be a time to have fun, make connections, and grow both personally and professionally, it can also be very stressful. It takes strength to recognize that you might need help and it takes courage to ask for help. When you are ready to talk to someone, please know that you can come to us.
Free
All registered students can meet with a counselor for free to complete an initial assessment of their needs. Once you discuss your needs with a counselor, they can help you explore the best way to address them.
Students may either be seen for individual counseling at the center or directed to the appropriate on or off campus resource that best fits them. This service is specifically geared to helping students with personal and emotional issues that are interfering with achieving their academic goals. If your concerns would be better addressed by an off-campus provider, we can also help you find and get connected to those referrals.
Confidential
No records about your visit exist outside of our office. We won’t share any information about your sessions to anyone unless you give us your written permission to release your records. There are a few exceptions to that rule of confidentiality:
- If we assess that you may be a danger to yourself or others
- If we assess that a child or elder is being abused, neglected, or exploited
- If we are required to present records or information as part of a legal proceeding
Should any of these situations arise, our staff will make every effort to discuss with you what information will be released and what steps will be taken.
