Nassau Lions Out-Roar the KCC Waves

Despite playing a close game for the first seven innings, the Nassau Community College
Lions batted in five runs in the top of the eighth inning and defeated the Kingsborough
Wave by a score of 10-3 on a chilly Friday afternoon in Brooklyn.
 Despite the cool weather the Wave had a hot start led by Michael Triolo, who singled,
stole two bases, and then scored on a balk. In the second inning, the Lions sloppy
pitching continued, and a wild pitch led to another run giving the Wave a 2-0 lead.
After Nassau responded with a run apiece in the third and fourth innings, Joaquin
Bob led off the fifth frame with a triple, and scored on Sonny Hodge's RBI single
to put the Wave back on top 3-2. Unfortunately for the home team, it was the last
time they would be ahead.
Nassau regained a 4-3 lead after scoring another couple of runs in the sixth inning,
but it could've been much worse. Right after hitting a triple in the fifth inning,
Joaquin Bob showed off his defense and made a spectacular diving catch, saving a couple
of potential runs in the process. It was the first of a few impressive catches for
Bob that day.
Starting pitcher Ryan Lovitt left the game after pitching six solid innings and giving
up four runs. In the seventh inning he was relieved  by Tommy Ryan, who was able to get out of a jam with runners on second and third with
nobody out.
After a scoreless seventh inning for both teams, the first frame during which neither
team scored, the Lions were able to find their offense again in the eighth inning.
The Kingsborough bullpen was unable to hold Nassau off, and the Wave trailed 9-3 heading
into the bottom of the inning. Although the Wave managed to get a few more base runners,
they were never able to mount a comeback.
Even with the loss, coach Jimmy Ryan was able to find a few bright spots moving ahead,
saying Our starting pitcher had a really, really good effort , said coach Ryan. He
was also very enthused with the performance of Joaquin Bob . He had a tremendous game.
He can run, he can throw, and the ball jumps off his bat. The Wave are now 1-1 on
the season, splitting the first two games of their home-and-home series with Nassau.
