FOLLOW THESE GUIDELINES TO HELP CHOOSE YOUR CAREER PATH!
~0-15 credits
- Schedule an appointment with a Career Advisor in C-102 to explore different career areas and start working on your resume.
- Take a self-assessment. IT’S FREE!!
- Do your research. Utilize Career Coach (kingsborough.emsicc.com), and the Occupational Outlook Handbook (bls.gov/ooh/), to help you narrow down your career path.
- Register on the KCC Jobs Board (Career Wave) and follow Career Development on social media (Facebook, Twitter and Instagram).
- Get involved! Join a club or organization on campus.
- Find a mentor! Reach out to Career Development to see how you can connect with a mentor for guidance throughout your academic career.
~15-30 credits
- Meet with a career advisor to review/update your resume.
- Attend Panel Discussions and Information Sessions offered by the Career Development Center to learn more about different careers.
- Set up informational interviews with professionals in your field of interest.
- Create a profile on LinkedIn to continue building your professional network.
- Attend job/internship fairs and begin applying for internships. Gain real world experience and build your resume.
~30-45 credits
- Continue to participate in internships.
- Join a professional association in your field.
- Volunteer your services on campus or within your community. Sign up for a service learning opportunity in C-102.
- If you plan to transfer to a 4-yr school, review your transfer plans with your academic advisor.
~45-60 credits
- Update your resume.
- Create a portfolio. Include your resume, cover letter, references and letters of recommendation.
- Schedule a mock interview to practice your interview skills and get feedback.
- Attend job/internship fairs and apply for jobs in your field.
