The Scholarship of Teaching & Learning
Have you ever graded an assignment and wondered, “Why didn’t my students get this concept/idea?” Maybe you tried something new and it worked great, or was not so great, and you wondered, “What happened? And how can I improve on this result?” The Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) Faculty Interest Group (FIG) might be for you. This working group of faculty colleagues meets during over the semester and helps you take your questions about teaching and learning and turn them into research projects and potential publications. Using the brief, informative, and free to download book The SoTL Guide: (Re)Orienting the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning as a guide, each session works towards outlining a plan for undertaking your own SoTL research project including: identifying where you want to improve or learn more, finding your focus, considering student and ethical perspectives, and sharing your findings, whatever form that might take. So whether you want to reflect on and learn more about what’s going on in your classroom and/or work on creating research that is relevant to the work you do at KCC, I hope that this FIG will be a supportive and collaborative environment for you to do just that.
