The academically underprepared community college student may also be psychosocially underprepared for college, a condition contributing to the development of classroom-specific social phobia and a high attrition rate. Michael Miranda (Department of Behavioral Sciences) has developed a program - Find Your Classroom Voice - Developing Students' Class Participation Abilities - which uses individual and group cognitive-behavioral techniques to develop students' academic and social integration with the college, thereby promoting active learning, academic success, and persistence in the pursuit of an Associate's degree. Prof. Miranda facilitates a faculty group where interested faculty learn how to use the program in their own classes and discuss other innovative ways to assist these students. For more information or to join this group, please contact Michael Miranda at michael.miranda@kbcc.cuny.edu.
