Security Features
PUBLIC SAFETYThe Kingsborough Public Safety Department is your partner in campus safety. Our team of officers is available 24 hours a day providing a welcoming environment for the college community. The department offers educational programs for the prevention of sexual assault, active shooter training along with other crime prevention training. SECURITY FEATURESWe offer various safety alerts communication systems available to the college community. You can sign up for CUNY Alert and receive either text message, email or voice message of emergencies on campus. We also have a Public Address system used to communicate with the college during emergency situations. Throughout the hallways, corridors and restrooms you can contact Public Safety by using one of the security pull boxes. These devices can be activated in the event of an emergency by pulling the lever. Any intentional false alarm will be severely dealt with since it endangers the safety of the community. Two-way emergency assistance alarms are located in stairwells and elevators. These devices allow you to communicate with the Public Safety officer at central command. There are Public Safety Officers at the entry booths to provide surveillance, control access and offer assistance to the college and visitors. The Main Gate Security Booth is manned 24-hours a day, 365 days a year. Public Safety Officers maintain building patrols on a 24 hour basis. Exterior lighting is present in motor vehicle parking lots. Pedestrian walkways and building exteriors are well-lighted. Formal surveys of exterior lighting are conducted by the Department of Public Safety and coordinated with the Department of Building and Grounds. CUNY ALERT The CUNY Alert system enables all members of the college community to receive text, email, or voice notifications of campus emergencies or weather related closings. You can sign up online at www.cuny.edu/alert or visit the Department of Public Safety, in room L202, where members of our staff can assist you. The process takes only a few minutes. Individuals can choose how they wish to receive voice or text notifications via cell phone, home phone, e-mail, instant message, or any combination of the aforementioned. Kingsborough Community College Department of Public Safety is committed to ensuring the security and safety of the college community. CUNY Alert is one of many tools that will be used to accomplish this goal. |
