Politicians, business leaders, community partners, and students recently celebrated the 3rd Annual Community & Business Partners Luncheon at Kingsborough Community College (KCC)’s Oceanview Restaurant. The event was a collaboration between New York State Assembly Member Michael Novakhov, representing the 45th Assembly District—which includes portions of Sheepshead Bay, Midwood, Manhattan Beach, Gravesend, and Brighton Beach—and KCC’s Office of the President, Workforce Development, Continuing Education & Strategic Partnerships, Institutional Advancement, and the Culinary Arts program. More than 30 business and community partners attended.

"The purpose of the luncheon is to create connections, expand networks, and develop collaborations between the community and business partners in and around Sheepshead Bay. We are delighted to host this annual gathering with Assembly Member Novakhov and to foster new relationships and engagement among community members," said Dr. Simone Rodriguez, VP for Workforce Development, Continuing Education, and Strategic Partnerships.

"It was a wonderful experience to come together with our community partners and the dedicated team at Kingsborough to celebrate the power of collaboration in shaping a brighter future for our businesses, organizations, community, and students. Together, we are not only building pathways to innovation, partnerships, and success but also experiencing excellence in education through the culinary skills and talents of KCC’s students," said Assembly Member Novakhov.

The event commenced with welcome remarks from VP Simone Rodriguez and a keynote message from Assembly Member Novakhov. Guests had the opportunity to network and introduce their businesses, sharing their unique offerings with everyone in attendance. Valuable connections were made along with plans for future collaborations. Attendees included Steve Barrison, Bay Improvement, Wai Yee Chan from Homecrest Community Services, Steve Cohen from Brooklyn Cyclones, Natalia Travilina from TraNa Relief, Ramil Yusufov from Apple Bank, and so many more special guests.

The luncheon also provided an opportunity to showcase Kingsborough’s exceptional culinary arts program and its talented students. This program offers comprehensive training aimed at preparing students for successful careers in the food industry. Students receive hands-on experience in the program’s Oceanview Restaurant, which features fully equipped cooking facilities that simulate a real restaurant environment. For the luncheon, the culinary arts students decorated the venue, welcomed guests, prepared a three-course meal that included Autumn Harvest Salad, Pan-Roasted Salmon, Hickory Smoked Chicken, and Pumpkin Panna Cotta, served the dishes, and managed the post-event cleanup.

“Being part of a dedicated and collaborative community, along with the incredible support from our local assembly district, allows us to witness the positive impact of our collective efforts. It also empowers and shapes the future of our students and fosters their growth and engagement in the community,” said Suri Duitch, interim president of Kingsborough.
