Subject: Credit/No Credit Policy Implementation

Dear Presidents and Provosts,

I am pleased to announce that the Credit/No Credit Flexible Grading Policy has been implemented University-wide. As you know, the policy will allow fair and just evaluations of our students’ academic efforts during this disrupted spring semester.

The most updated information regarding the policy has been posted on the Credit/No Credit page of the CUNY Coronavirus and Continuity website.  These updates include the following.

We are working hard to ensure that the policy is implemented as approved by the Board of Trustees — that is, all academic programs must adhere to the CR/NC policy, which is not open to interpretation or subject to additional local policies or already existing grading policies that are in conflict with the new Board policy.  We have received reports from students that some faculty may not be abiding by these terms posted in the Faculty Information Guide of the CUNY Coronavirus and Continuity website.  Hence, I ask your help to ensure that your college is indeed in compliance with the Board of Trustees policy. Additionally, our ability to meet both the spirit and the letter of this policy requires that faculty submit grades on time. And so, I would ask that you please communicate this directly to your faculty and urge them to be mindful in meeting the grade submission deadline.

Once again, I want to express my sincerest gratitude for your patience and perseverance throughout this grading policy change. I am confident that with your continued guidance in this matter, your faculty and advisors will be able to properly memorialize our student’s academic efforts this semester and ensure our students’ advancement to future courses.

These are most extraordinary times and I am so grateful for your support and leadership.

Sincerely,

JL
