Application Process

Hello Potential Research Scholar,

Here is an outline of the application/enrollment process:

Step 1: Complete and submit the "Thank You for Your Interest" Form.

Please note, Steps 2 and 3 can be done simultaneously. You can submit your completed Research Ethics course information while you are still working on getting a mentor. Please note, since we are on summer vacation, some potential mentors will be difficult to get in contact with.

Step 2: Complete CITI Online Research Ethics Course

Complete the online CITI Research Ethics course, Take the Responsible Conduct of Research Course using the attached document for complete directions. Email your Certificate of Completion and grade form to Frances Samuel (at Frances.Smauel@kbcc.cuny.edu) as soon as you complete the course.

Here is a suggestion about how to complete the course more effectively and efficiently:

    • Open two tabs in your web browser.
    • Log in to the CITI online research ethics course on both tabs.
    • On one tab, keep the reading and video open. On the other tab, keep the questions for the quiz open.
      • Once you read the question, skim the passage for your answer.
      • Once you complete all 9 module quizzes, submit the Completion Certificate and Grade Report to me.

Please note: If you try to keep one tab open when answering the quiz questions, the questions will continuously change and make this is difficult experience.

Cohort 2024 Returning Students from only, can skip to the final step, complete application.

 Step 3: Find a mentor

As a researcher, we encourage all scholars to find a mentor that is or plan to engage in research during the 2024 – 2025 academic year. A mentor can be any KCC faculty or staff member in most departments. CRSP is STEM-focused but can include Business, Speech, History/Political Science, Nursing, and more.

The interest form contains the complete list of our current faculty members that have expressed an interest in being a mentor. Please feel free to schedule an appointment with me to discuss potential mentors based on your interest. Please note, some mentors will require an interview as a part of the enrollment process.  Additional mentors will be added to this list. You can also select to work with a mentor that is not listed on the interest form

Please note, some mentors will require in-person research, meetings, lab work, etc. Please be sure you speak with your potential mentor about their preferred meeting modality. Project Descriptions coming soon

Step 4: Complete the formal application with a complete signature from your mentor.

Once your Certificate of Completion and grade report form is received via email, you will receive the final application. Your signed application will be used to enroll you in the research course associated with the program and ensure your spot in the program for this academic year. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis until all 19 seats for this year’s cohort is filled. You will receive a follow-up stating that your enrollment process is complete and details about Orientation. Orientation will be in-person in mid to late September on a Friday around 10am. Please be sure you make arrangements so you are present for this mandatory event. We will share this information with you as soon as the date and location are confirmed.

***Please note, we are working on editing the current application. Therefore, it may take a while before we send you the final application, once you submit the Research Ethics Course Certificate and grade completion report.***

Application Deadline: Friday September 27, 204.

Please note: Spaces for the cohort are filled in the order in which they arrive and are completed. If you do not have a mentor currently, please feel free to reach out to our current mentors to discuss potential project ideas.

If you have any additional questions or comments, please email Frances Samuel, Program Administrator Frances.Samuel@kbcc.cuny.edu
