58th Commencement

Dreams Begin Here

Information for Graduates

TICKETS

Due to the size of the graduating class and the seating area, graduates may invite no more than four guests, and all guests will need to receive and show a ticket. You can request up to four tickets for your guests free of charge on Eventbrite. Graduates do not need a ticket for themselves.

If the link does not work, please copy and paste this web address into your browser: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/kingsborough-community-college-2023-commencement-tickets-632754213887

CAP & GOWN

Your cap and gown may be picked up in the bookstore beginning on June 6 if you placed your order online by May 3. There is no charge for the cap and gown. If you did not order online, you may pick up a cap and gown at the bookstore at any time during regular bookstore hours.

If you will not be on campus to pick up your cap and gown, you may email Commencement@kbcc.cuny.edu to request to have your cap and gown shipped to you (students pay shipping only) through the bookstore website. Where it says search keywords, type “graduation set.”  The next page will show a picture of the cap and gown set. Click on it and enter your order.  When you check out, in the payment section click financial aid and enter your student ID number in order to receive the cap and gown free of charge. You will only be charged the shipping cost.

VETERANS’ UNIFORMS

Graduating students who are veterans are encouraged to wear their uniforms to the ceremony.  If you prefer, or are unable to do so, the college cap and gown is acceptable.

GRADUATION DAY PROCEDURES

9:30 a.m.       Graduates, Candidates for Graduation and their guests should arrive on campus (Please see the entrance procedures outlined below).
10:30 a.m.      Processional, Name reading begins (If you are late, you will be seated, but your name may not be called)
11:00 a.m.   Ceremony begins

Graduates and candidates for graduation should proceed directly to the seawall alongside the Science Building. Please consult this map to see where you should line up. If you arrive late, you will be seated, but your name may not be called.

Beautiful weather is the hallmark of Kingsborough’s outdoor Commencement Exercises.  However:

  •   In case of heavy rain, we will move the line to an indoor location in the S building. Please follow the instructions of Public Safety officers, the marshals, and the Commencement volunteers.
  •   If you feel that the weather is severe enough to cause the cancellation of the Commencement Exercises, please call 718-368-6553 on the morning of June 21 for a recorded announcement indicating the status of the ceremony.

BACKPACKS AND BAGS ON CAMPUS

Please do not bring any backpacks, coolers or large bags on campus. Public Safety reserves the right to inspect any bags being brought onto campus.

DROP OFF AND PARKING

You may arrive earlier if you wish, but please be sure to arrive no later than 9:30. If you drive your own car, please arrive via Oriental Blvd (not Shore Blvd), as parking for graduates and their guests will be in the Manhattan Beach parking lot. Public Safety officers will direct you. A shuttle will be available for those who are unable to walk from there to campus. Guests with disabilities will be able to park on campus (please request this from Public Safety at the gate). Otherwise, be sure to plan enough time to walk, and please have your ID available as you enter the gate. If you arrive via car service, it is likely that your driver will need to drop you off further up Oriental Blvd, rather than right at the Kingsborough gate.

RECEPTION

Immediately following the ceremony, there will be a reception for graduates and their guests in the U-building cafeteria. Light refreshments will be provided, and you’ll have the opportunity to take photos with President Schrader, faculty, and your friends and family. Please see this map (link coming soon!)  for a list of prime photo locations. All are invited!

Information for Faculty

GRADUATION DAY PROCEDURES

As usual, the Commencement ceremony begins at 11:00 a.m.  Faculty and staff do not need commencement tickets, but please have your campus ID available as usual. Faculty and staff may park on campus as usual, but should be prepared to park offsite at the Manhattan Beach parking lot if directed to do so by Public Safety in the event that campus parking is full. There will be a reception in the U-building cafeteria following the ceremony if you wish to greet and celebrate with your students.

The faculty should be lined up and prepared to march by 10:45 a.m. along the eastern seawall, immediately south of the small parking lot between the Arts and Sciences building and the Marine Academic Center (see this map).  Staff are also invited and encouraged to participate in the march. Please note that academic regalia is requested for all those who join the procession. Faculty and staff will follow the graduates through the lobby of the Arts & Sciences building, exit the building and continue into the tent. Once seated, please plan to remain for the duration of the ceremony.

In the event of rain, we will move the line to an indoor location in the S building. Please follow the instructions of Public Safety officers, the marshals, and the Commencement volunteers.  If you feel that the weather is severe enough to cause the cancellation of the Commencement Exercises, please call (718) 368-6553 on the morning of June 21, for a recorded announcement indicating the status of the ceremony.

There will be reserved seating for faculty and staff choosing not to robe. This area is directly behind the robed faculty and staff, and you may enter the tent following the robed faculty.
