KINGSBOROUGH COMMUNITY COLLEGE WELCOMES NANCY LEE SÁNCHEZ TO ITS FOUNDATION BOARD
October 9, 2020 – Nancy Lee Sánchez, executive director of the Kaplan Educational Foundation and KCC alumnus, named newest trustee of the Kingsborough Community College Foundation Board.
Brooklyn, NY – Kingsborough Community College Foundation Board Chairperson Suzanne M. Murphy announced the addition of Nancy Lee Sánchez as a board trustee at last night’s quarterly meeting. Sánchez, who started her educational journey at Kingsborough Community College (KCC), is executive director of the Kaplan Educational Foundation, where she serves as a strategic partner and advisor to the Kaplan Educational Foundation Board of Directors, and manages the Kaplan Leadership Program’s rigorous recruitment, academic, advisement, leadership and scholarship components.
“We are thrilled to welcome Nancy back home in this new capacity,” said Murphy. “Her unique experience as a community college graduate has already benefitted generations of community college students through her work with the Kaplan Foundation, including KCC students. We’re happy that she has accepted the challenge of expanding her involvement with the College.”
Nancy Lee Sánchez is one of the leading voices on community college to four-year transfer. She was responsible for the design and implementation of the renowned Kaplan Leadership Program, which provides high-potential associate degree students of color who have a financial need with resources and support to help them transfer and earn bachelor degrees, and attain leadership roles in their professions and communities. Under Sánchez’s leadership, Kaplan Leadership Scholars boast an 88% associate degree completion rate, a 93% transfer rate, and an 87% bachelor’s degree completion rate.
A 2014 National Hispanic Executive Leadership Fellow, Sánchez completed an Executive Leadership Program at Harvard University’s John F. Kennedy School of Government and a Leadership Development Program at the Center for Creative Leadership.
She serves as a selection judge for the multiple scholarships hosted by organizations like the Dell Scholars Foundation, Jack Kent Cooke Foundation, and the Coca-Cola Scholars through Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society. She also served as the board chair for New York Math Academy and Coaching Services.
In addition, she is the author of “Your Guide to College Transfer,” a regular contributor to Forbes, and a frequent media spokesperson on issues around degree attainment gaps.
Born in Las Piedras, Puerto Rico, Sánchez currently resides in Brooklyn. The KCC alumnus earned an associate degree in early childhood education. She went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in education from Long Island University, a master’s in sociology from Brooklyn College, and is currently pursuing a doctorate degree in Educational Leadership and Innovation at New York University with an expected completion date in early 2021.
