Dear College Community,

Please see recent communication from the Central Office to students regarding the Booster Mandate.  Please refer students to Sasha Duncan (Sasha.Duncan@kbcc.cuny.edu) if they have any questions.  They can also send questions to KCC.CovidResponse@kbcc.cuny.edu.  Also, each Tuesday in the month of February, the COVID Response team will host a Zoom session to help anyone who needs assistance uploading Vax or Booster information.

CUNY strongly encourages every member of our community -- students, faculty, and staff -- to get the booster shot as soon as they become eligible. The booster shot provides additional protection against COVID-19 and its variants. Further, students are mandated to get boosted as soon as they become eligible. Guidance for students is below.

Student Booster Mandate - Spring 2022

Students enrolled in any in-person or hybrid classes who are eligible for a booster on January 28 when the Spring Term begins must submit proof of a booster on CUNYfirst by March 1:

  • This includes all students who were enrolled in in-person or hybrid courses in Fall 2021 unless they had an approved exception or exemption.

  • Students who fail to meet the March 1 deadline will be notified that they face administrative action including having a stop on their record that prevents registration for Summer/Fall 2022 classes.

  • Schools with Spring Term starting in March have the same deadlines as stated above.

Students enrolled in the Spring Term in any in-person or hybrid classes who become eligible for a booster

between January 28 and the end of the Spring Term must submit proof of a booster on CUNYfirst within 30 days of becoming eligible.

  • Students who fail to meet the booster documentation uploading deadline will be subject to administrative action including having  a stop on their record that prevents registration for Summer/Fall 2022 classes.

Eligibility for a Pfizer and Moderna booster begins 5 months after the second shot and for Johnson & Johnson, two months after the single shot. The CDC recommends the Pfizer or Moderna boosters in most situations no matter the original vaccine. Students 17 or younger can only get the Pfizer booster. To find a free booster site close to you, visit here or here.

Students who previously received a religious exception or medical exemption to the vaccine mandate will not be required to provide further documentation to be exempted from the booster mandate. Those with provisional or time-limited medical exemptions that are no longer valid may reapply if those conditions still pertain and should do so by February 4. Otherwise, they will have to comply with the vaccine and booster mandate. Those who are now vaccinated are not eligible to apply for exceptions to the booster.

Students registering for any in-person or hybrid classes for Summer and Fall 2022 classes must have proof of their vaccine/s shots and of a booster (when eligible) documented in CUNYfirst to register.
