President’s Weekly Message
Counting down the days!
Friday, December 4, 2020
Dear KCC Students,
Some people might say the only thing that they look forward to after Thanksgiving
Day more than leftovers is shopping on Black Friday, Small Business Saturday and Cyber
Monday.
But for many of us at Kingsborough, the only thing better than shopping for three days is giving on one day, #GivingTuesday. #GivingTuesday is the Tuesday after Thanksgiving and it is a day where people and organizations give to causes that are important to them. At CUNY we celebrate this day as #CUNYTuesday by donating money and asking others to make donations to our colleges to support the success of our students.
This year at Kingsborough we did not meet our $50,000 fundraising goal, we surpassed it because of faculty, staff, alumni, and our network of friends and supporters who gave generously. We gave because we know that many times there are circumstances that interfere with your ability to obtain your degree and we want to ensure that there are no barriers to your success.
You are almost at the end of the semester. If you are having any issues that might
affect your ability to finish strong remember that support is available. Emergency
Funds are available to qualifying KCC students (https://www.kbcc.cuny.edu/admission/scholarships_grants_awards.html); and as you get ready for the new semester, know that the KCC Foundation offers
a variety of scholarships year-round for eligible students in need of direct financial
assistance (https://www.kbcc.cuny.edu/admission/documents/application_for_grant.pdf).
I know that Black Friday, Small Business Saturday and Cyber Monday are good days for
shopping, and that #CUNYTuesday is indeed a great day for giving, but the best day
for us at Kingsborough, is Commencement Day. It is a day for accomplishing, achieving and
celebrating. Know that we are here to support you in getting there.
President Schrader
