Translanguaging and Transformative Teaching for Emergent Bilingual Students

Join Ivana Espinet, a professor in the Education program in the Behavioral Sciences department, for the book launch of  “Translanguaging and Transformative Teaching for Emergent Bilingual Students.”

Professor Espinet is the former Director of the CUNY Initiative on Emergent Bilinguals (CUNY-NYSIEB). and the book was edited by the CUNY-NYSIEB team and Professor Espinet co-wrote four chapters.  The book shares the history and the theoretical and philosophical foundations of the CUNY-NYSIEB project, as well as the impact on teaching and learning in different contexts. Professor Espinet’s chapters explore: leadership in the project; how bilingual students and teachers interrogate language ideologies through inquiry; strategies for fostering bilingual reading identities; and family partnerships within the context of instructional work with emergent bilinguals.

The event is on March 24 at 7:30pm and it will include breakout rooms with the authors of different chapters.
