A
History of the KCC Reads Program
KCC Reads, the Common Reading Program at Kingsborough Community College, was inaugurated
at a meeting of the Faculty Assembly in Spring, 2001. Since that time, we have adopted
a number of wonderful and inspiring books and engaged in much valuable programming
around them.
Students have been enriched through this program in numerous ways everything from
producing art, making pottery and beautiful illustrations inspired by the books, holding
special art exhibits, expert lectures and keynote talks, and musical performances, as
well as various academic events: student debates, panel presentations, film screenings,
and roundtable discussions.
Through the KCC Reads program, students have done volunteer work and raised money
for worthy causes; they've developed as thinkers and
become better prepared for life beyond school.
Through this program, faculty and staff have also taken advantage of the many opportunities
to collaborate and work as an campus-wide community in nominating and selecting the
book, participating in reading groups, and organizing, holding and participating in
events programming around the books.
