Our Department

The Office of Public Safety is located on the second floor of the library, room L202, and can be reached by dialing (718) 368-5069. You can email the Public Safety Department supervisors via email at:  ps_supv@kbcc.cuny.edu or call our office and ask to speak to the supervisor on duty.

Kingsborough Community College provides law enforcement services on campus. Anyone who is the victim of or observes a crime should contact the department of Public Safety by dialing 7777 from any on-campus telephone, by dialing 718-368-4995 from their cell phone or by using one of the many emergency pull-box stations located throughout the campus.

The Public Safety administrative staff consists of a Director, three Lieutenants, ten Sergeants and approximately 21 sworn Peace Officers. CUNY Peace Officers attend a 14 week training program and, except for the ability to serve warrants, have the same authority as a Police Officer. Their training meets and exceeds all the mandated New York State Division of Criminal Justice requirements for Peace Officers. In addition, KBCC Public Safety Department is augmented by 8 Campus Security Assistants and 9 Security Officers with civilian powers of arrest. There are three supervised shifts daily, seven days a week.

As part of our efforts to facilitate safety on campus, it occasionally becomes necessary for Public Safety officers to stop members of the college community and ask for information. Being stopped by an officer does not mean you are a suspect of a crime however we ask for your cooperation in promoting a safe and secure environment.  Therefore, the college community is responsible for presenting identification to college officials.

A follow-up will be conducted of any reported crime for which sufficient information is provided to enable officers to carry out an investigation. All crimes should be reported to enable our department to best utilize our resources.
