Build to Last

Dear Students,

True Confession: I hate to fly.  I have always hated flying, but my fears have done little to stop me from seeing the world.  I've been everywhere from A (Alaska) to Z (Zimbabwe) and lots of places in-between.  One of my most memorable trips was to Egypt. I had been fascinated by the Pyramids and yearned to go there one day.  As fate would have it, on my way to Kenya one year, I had a 10 hour layover in Egypt and I decided that I was going to grab hold of this opportunity to see the Great Pyramid of Giza.  As we made our descent over Cairo, I could see them beneath me; and as I made my way through the streets of Cairo (even driving over part of the Nile River), I could see glimpses of the Pyramids between the buildings as we drove.  But nothing could prepare me for seeing them up close.  It was nothing like I imagined.

;From a distance, the silhouette of Pyramids were majestic, but up close, the blocks were uneven (as one would guess they would be after 4500 years).  It was unimaginable to me that these blocks (thousands of them) many that weighed over 2 tons, were constructed without the modern technology that we have today. The architects of the Pyramids though, had a vision, a plan, and a commitment to a task that would result in the Great Pyramid of Giza being one of the 7 Wonders of the Ancient World. And I finally got to see it in person!

Students, the fact that you are enrolled at KCC means that you have a vision and a plan and that you are committed to reaching your goals. Yes, things might be challenging right now, like those uneven blocks, but your future is​ majestic. Your goals are within reach. Great things are waiting for you and I can't wait to see it all!
