President’s Weekly Messages

Sowing the Seeds of Success

March 22, 2022

Dear KCC Students,

It’s hard to imagine what we did before Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat and Twitter.  Sometimes, I think that social media, has made us less social because we spend more time scrolling and swiping, rather than socializing with other people.  And sometimes even when we are with others, we are still glued to our feeds.

Don’t get me wrong, there are many benefits to social media. If you are following the college’s social media pages (@CUNYKCC, @KCCstudentife) or the University’s (@CUNY) you know that there is always important information about opportunities, deadlines and events posted.  Social media also helps you to stay connected with the friends and family you don’t always have the opportunity to talk to or see.  It’s a good way to hear about what is happening in the world and get the most important news of the day, (even though it’s not always accurate or true).  If you are one of those people that post regularly, it is a good way to look back on memories from past posts. But best of all, there is something on social media that is guaranteed to make you laugh or inspire you.  Here is something I saw on FB recently, that inspired me and I hope that it will do the same for you too.

You wouldn’t plan a seed and then dig it up every few minutes to see if it has grown.

So why do you keep questioning yourself, your hard work and your decisions?

Have patience, stop overthinking and keep watering your seeds.

KCC students, it’s hard to believe that you are almost three weeks into the semester.  Before you know it, you will be finished and you will be getting ready to graduate, transfer, start a new job or register for summer classes.  But right now, your school work is picking up.  You have lots of reading to do, assignments to complete, tests to prepare for, and projects to start.  It’s getting harder to juggle college and everything else that you have going on.   You might even start to doubt why you are even here in the first place.  Don’t do that.  Listen up: You are exactly where you belong.  Let me say that again:  You. Are. Exactly. Where. You. Belong.

You made a brave, bold and wise choice to pursue your degree and we are not only proud of you, and rooting for you, but we are here for you. If you are encountering any challenges, remember KCC has many resources (https://www.kbcc.cuny.edu/studres/ ) to help support you.  All you have to do is reach out. Continue stay the course and keep watering your seeds and very soon you will see the fruits of your labor.

Have a great week.  Stay safe.
