President’s Weekly Message

Can you spare two minutes?

Tuesday, May 4, 2021

Dear KCC Students,

It's May 4th and the only time I can say this: May the Fourth be with you!!

If you have read, watched or listened to the news lately, you know that New York City, the city that never sleeps is waking back up and opening back up.  In the past weeks, the number of people being vaccinated has increased, vaccinations are available to young adults 16 and older, movie theaters have reopened, seating capacity in restaurants have increased, and mask protocols for outdoor activities have been modified.  Most recently, there is news that subway service will return to 24-hour operations and city agency workers started to return to their offices.

At CUNY and at KCC we are working to ensure our own return to campus in the fall.  If you have had the opportunity to look at the Fall 2021 schedule (you should registration for the fall has already started) you will notice that we have more classes offered on campus for the Fall 2021. This increase of on campus course offerings will also mean that student service offices like Financial Aid, Registrar, and Student Life will also have an on campus presence as well.

You should know that the College’s reopening committee (the Forward Committee) is hard at work developing the plan for the fall.  Their number one priority is to ensure the health and safety of all members of our college community.

We know that even with the progress that has been made in the past few months, and the optimism that many of us have about the future that there are still some that have concerns.  We and I want to know your thoughts about returning to campus.

The KCC Forward Committee sent you a survey last week.  If you have not completed it PLEASE do so as soon as possible.  It is important that we hear from you so we can plan more effectively.  It will take 2 minutes to complete the survey.  The deadline for completion is Friday May 9th at midnight. CLICK HERE TO TAKE THE SURVEY

Thank you in advance for your input.  I hope that you are doing well.  If you are experiencing any issues or if you just want to t and say hi and let me know how things are going, dont hesitate to email me.

-President Schrader

As promised here are the answers to last week’s brain teasers.

A man stands on one side of a river, his dog on the other. The man calls his dog, who immediately crosses the river without getting wet and without using a bridge or a boat. How did the dog do it?

Answer: The river was frozen.

A king is old and must leave his fortune to one of his two sons. He makes a proposition: Both sons will ride their camels in a race, and whichever camel crosses the finish line LAST will win the fortune for its owner. During the race, the two brothers wander aimlessly for days, neither willing to cross the finish line. In desperation, they ask a wise man for advice. He tells them something; then the brothers leap onto the camels and charge toward the finish line. What did the wise man say?

Answer: The rules of the race were that the owner of the camel that crosses the finish line last wins the fortune. The wise man simply told them to switch camels.
