Step 2: Complete CITI Online Research Ethics Course
Complete the online CITI Research Ethics course, “Take the Responsible Conduct of Research Course”, using the attached document for complete directions. Email your Certificate of Completion and grade form to Frances Samuel (at Frances.Samuel@kbcc.cuny.edu) as soon as you complete the course.
Here is a suggestion about how to complete the course more effectively and efficiently:
- Open two tabs in your web browser.
- Log in to the CITI online research ethics course on both tabs.
- On one tab, keep the reading and video open. On the other tab, keep the questions
for the quiz open.
- Once you read the question, skim the passage for your answer.
- Once you complete all 9 module quizzes, submit the Completion Certificate and Grade Report to me.
Please note: If you try to keep one tab open when answering the quiz questions, the questions will continuously change and make this is difficult experience.
Returning Students only, skip to Step 4. Please note, we have limited space for returning scholars.

Step 3: Select a Mentor
As a researcher, we encourage all scholars to find a mentor they know plan to engage in research or they have a positive working relationship. A mentor can be any KCC faculty or staff member in most departments. CRSP is STEM-focused but can include Business, Speech, History/Political Science, Nursing, and more.
CRSP research projects are typically based on a faculty member's ongoing research, new research of the student's design (usually in social sciences), or something similar.
Preference will be given to the mentors listed. Some mentors will require an interview as a part of the enrollment process which may include topics such as in-person research, meetings, lab work, previous research/lab experience, etc. Mentors are allowed a maximum of two students.
For Mentor’s contact Information, please visit the “Mentors” page.
Please feel free to schedule an appointment to discuss potential mentors based on your interest.

Step 4: Complete the formal application with a complete signature from your mentor
Once you submit your Certificate of Completion and grade form, you will receive the final application. Your signed application will be used to enroll you in the research course associated with the program and ensure your spot in the program for this academic year.
Applications are accepted on a rolling basis until all seats for this year’s cohort is filled. Orientation details will be shared via email.
Returning Students from previous cohorts only, begin here after completing the interest form. Please note, we have limited space for returning scholars.
Please note: The formal application is only issued once all prior stages are complete and documentation is provided.
Application submission is required by the CUNY Research Scholars Program Orientation.
Step 5: Attend Orientation
We will discuss the program goals, the roles, responsibilities and expectations of the mentors and scholars, the program timeline, stipend payouts, require group meetings, and more. Please be sure you make arrangements so you are present for this mandatory event.
The CUNY Research Scholars Program at KCC Orientation is typically hosted in-person on a Friday in mid-September from 10AM – 12PM for all interested student scholars and faculty mentors.
