After graduating from KCC in 1996 I moved to the Washington DC area and have been working as a software developer/ architect ever since. KCC prepared me well for my career and life in general. Today I am a solution architect at Avanade and international software consulting organization. I got married 3 years ago and I have a 4 month old daughter named Samantha.

Abigail Ryan
Kingsborough Class of 1998

I recently became more aware of the importance of being a part of my alumni association.
So I am taking the time to keep in touch right now.
I loved how well thought out and planned the homecoming was this year. I did not get a chance to attend because I made it there late. But I did notice that it was a job very well done.

After graduating from Kingsborough Community College in 1998, I later attended Baruch College and graduated with a degree in Corporate Communications. I am currently working for the Bronx District Attorney's office.

Arthur E. Kaye
Kingsborough Class of 1971

I attended K.K.C. from 1969 thru 1971 in the recreation supervision program and completed the requirements for the A.A.S.. I then transferred to Herbert H. Lehman College and received a B.A. in recreation education. I graduated from NYU in 1977 with an M.A. in therapeutic recreation.

I was an activity director at the Sheepshead Nursing Home and the Crown Nursing Home. I was a recreation specialist at the Manhattan V.A. Hospital and with the Metropolitan Correctional Center in lower Manhattan. I also did recreation work with the NYC Dept Of Recreation, The Salvation Army Social Services For Children, and the Adult Retardates Center Residence Program. WHAT GREAT EXPERIENCES HELPING OTHER PEOPLE!

I was called back to K.C.C. (1980-1982?) for adjunct lecturing in the recreation curriculum (Prof. Kaye and Dr. Scherrick). My most memorable experiences of the college were with the great students in the curriculum and Dr. Lester Rhoads. I know he is gone but he not only taught us about becoming professional recreation people but about being human and experiencing everything there was out there in the world. i.e. theater parties, trips to conferences, organizing fundraisers for charitable organizations. Lester was the most important influence in my life during those early adult years.

After many years in recreation as a paid professional and a volunteer, I went into the insurance claims industry as a claims adjuster and investigator. I remained a volunteer in several groups during the past years so that I could help people. I am an EMT (emergency medical technician), BSA Eagle Scout, and have recently moved back to Brooklyn from Las Vegas to assist several not profit organizations dealing with public safety. I have been reactivated as Chief of Operations of CDSNY (Citywide Disaster Services) and am presently assisting in their reorganization, training, grant writing, etc.

I moved to Vegas in 1990 after living in Brooklyn all my life, owned an independent adjusting company, and also worked in security at The Mirage Hotel & Casino. VIVA LAS VEGAS! The business is gone and I left the Mirage to assist in CDSNY. I still have property in Las Vegas, Phoenix, and Brooklyn and hope to be able to travel back and forth bi-monthly etc. This is a project I need to work on especially after 9-1-1.

Out of the three institutions of higher learning I attended, K.C.C will always be remembered for its hands-on approach, kindness and family-type atmosphere. We only had the South and North Building then the T-2 Structure but were still able to meet our goals. The dirt, temporary trailers, and other inconveniences finally ended but I was long gone. It is a beautiful campus and I hope the students appreciate what they have!

Carolyn Katz
Kingsborough Class of 1967

Hi, my name is Carolyn Katz, formerly Leder. I went to KCC from 1965 to 1967. I was a member of the first graduating class. We were housed in old army barracks. I have fond memories of the school. it was a developing program and we were their success story. I remember having classes very late in the afternoon, probably until 5 or 5:30. The heat didn't always work and we would freeze. I remember cutting class from time to time to go to Coney Island and eat at Nathan s. I went on to Brooklyn College and graduated with a degree in teaching. I taught in New York for several years .I am still teaching. It is my passion. I am married and have a son and two beautiful grand children. We have lived in Florida for almost 30 years.
