Dean Gordon Alley-Young

Gordon Alley-Young

Dr. Gordon Alley-Young, Dean of Faculty, has worked for over 25 years in higher education in the classroom, in residence halls, and in administration. His educational background in the Communication discipline and his professional experience as a journalist and as a community and media relations liaison in his native country of Canada informs his emphasis of relationships and responsiveness in his work with his faculty colleagues.

Dr. Alley-Young’s work with faculty emphasizes three interrelated areas. He partners with college leaders to provide opportunities for faculty to grow and develop as educators and thus to fuel their engagement with Kingsborough’s phenomenal students. He partners with his team to support faculty efforts to enrich themselves and their communities through their scholarship and creative activity. He works with stakeholders across the college (e.g., faculty, chairpersons, staff, administrators) to facilitate unobstructed, ethical, and transparent pathways to professional advancement and leadership.

Dr. Alley-Young has his doctorate in Speech Communication from Southern Illinois University, his two master’s degrees in Communication and Women’s Studies (concentration) from the University of Maine, and his undergraduate degree in Communication from Cape Breton University. He continues to teach at Kingsborough and has an active publishing portfolio with selected pieces of his research appearing in Spanish and Turkish language formats.
