  What are the "Special Programs"?

The College Discovery Bilingual Program is a special program intended for academically and economically disadvantaged students. In addition, counseling and instruction in Spanish and Creole for those native language speakers is provided; there are also specialized workshops, and referrals will be made for tutoring services when appropriate. The program monitors academic, student progress, and program counselors are available to discuss, analyze and offer approaches for overcoming problems with coursework or college life. The program provides an allowance for books and reimbursement for the student activity fee each semester. Eligibility is established during the initial semester, only. Continued participation in succeeding semesters is contingent upon compliance with all program requirements.

In order to be considered for The Bilingual Studies Program, students must fill out the section marked “SEEK/CD” on the CUNY Admissions application. Students are only accepted as entering freshmen in the initial fall semester. The only exception to this rule applies to students transferring to Kingsborough from another CUNY school who are already members of SEEK or College Discovery Programs at the other school.

All students must file for TAP and Pell in order to be considered for the program. In addition, if the student has failed any part of the CUNY placement exam, the student MUST enroll in a Summer Immersion Program prior to entering their initial Fall semester.

Upon admission to the college, students must submit verification of their income to the College Discovery Bilingual Program Office. Verification includes a copy of the student’s (or parents’ or spouse’s) federal tax return from the previous year. If the student is on Public Assistance, the student must fill out a verification of Public Assistance Form.

Students are selected for the program based on financial status, high school achievement and space availability.
