Learning Communities at Kingsborough

the man

Kingsborough has a nationally recognized Learning Communities Program where cohorts of students study together in anywhere from two to five courses that are linked together. Instructors collaborate to synchronize course topics, readings, and activities usually around a common theme, problem, and/or public issue and the semester culminates in a shared assignment. Through this assignment, students demonstrate that they have achieved student learning outcomes for all linked courses as well as the shared student learning outcome for the link, i.e., integrative thinking.

Learning communities involve collaboration, not only across academic departments, but across other institutional resources that serve student needs. Departments such as academic affairs, student development, and the library as well as the Center for Academic Writing Success offer services and skills that contribute to the mission of learning communities and to students’ experience of higher education.
