First Time User Instructions for Avaya Modular Messaging 

To log into voice mail from your phone extension dial 4990

To log into voice mail from someone else’s phone dial 4990
Or from off campus dial 1-718-368-4990

  • When the voice mail answers press *#, then enter your ext. number
  • You will then be prompted to enter your password, for the first time use 2580 #

The system then explains setting up a new password, to continue press 1
Enter a new password that you want to use going forward followed by the # sign.
Verify that new password by entering it again and then the # sign.
The system will then tell you your new password has been accepted.

DO NOT use sequential or repeating numbers, or starting with 0.

It will now help you record your personalized prompts

  • Continue press 1
  • You will start with your personalized hold prompt “Please hold for …”
  • To continue press 1
  • After recording press #
  • To accept this recording press 1
  • To re record the prompt press 2
  • To delete the prompt press 3

It will now help you to record your name…”Mary Jones”

  • To continue press 1
  • Record your first and last name and then press #
  • To accept this recording press 1
  • To re record press 2
  • To delete press 3

It will now help you record your personal greeting (The message that the caller will hear if you don’t answer your phone)

  • To continue press 1
  • Record your greeting and then press #
  • To accept this greeting press 1
  • To re record your personal greeting press 2

Sample greeting:  You have reached _________, I am not available to take your call right now, so please leave your name, telephone number and a message at the tone and I will return your call.

Your mailbox will now be set up and all your settings will be in effect the next time you dial in.
