First Time User Instructions for Avaya Modular Messaging 

To log into voice mail from your campus phone dial 4990

To log into voice mail from any other campus phone dial 4990

Or from off campus dial 1-718-368-4990

  • When the system answers press # and then enter your mailbox number (extension)

You will then be prompted to enter your password; for the first time use 2580 #

The system will then walk you through setting up a new password.

Follow the system instructions.

DO NOT use sequential, repeating numbers or start with 0.

Verify the new password by entering it again and then the # sign.

The system will then tell you your new password has been accepted.

The system will now prompt you to choose a recorded name, which identifies your personal mailbox.

To accept the system-recorded name, press 1

To re-record, press 2

  • Follow system instructions
  • To accept recording press 1
  • To re-record press 2
  • To delete press 3

The system will now prompt you to record your personal greeting.

  • Press 2 to record a greeting
  • Press * (star) to skip. A generic system greeting will be used.

The system will now prompt you to record a Please Hold… prompt.

  • Press 2 to record your prompt
  • Press * (star) to skip

Your mailbox will now be set up and all your settings will be in effect the next time you dial in.
