Introduced in 1997 to enable non-native speakers to
develop proficiency in the English language, the full-time
Kingsborough English Language Institute (KELI)
offers multiple proficiency levels for beginners to
advanced.

Course.
Tuition is only $825. The classes are Monday
through Friday, from 9:00 am-2:00 pm, T-2 building.

Class Placement
Everyone is placed in the best class for their skill level!

| CUSTOMIZED CLASS PLACEMENT
Before you start the program, you will take the standardized
Michigan placement exam (100 questions/60 minutes) and
write an essay (you are allotted 60 minutes) to determine if
you are a beginner, intermediate or advanced learner. On the
first day of class, your instructor will evaluate you further to
confirm correct placement. You must be at least 18 years old
to register. |

70 ENGLISH AS A SECOND LANGUAGE (T) $825
The classes are Monday through Friday, from 9:00 am - 2:00 pm
Classes start on Wednesday, Jan 6, 2010 and end on Friday, March 19, 2010

| The
KELI English as a second language program provides 9 levels of proficiency,
offering English survival skills from entry level to job readiness. Register and
complete three terms of English as a Second Language in our weeknight program
and Earn a Certificate as follows: |

Beginner
Certificate Levels 0, 1, 2
Advanced Beginner Certificate Levels
2, 3, 4
Intermediate Certificate Levels 3, 4, 5 Advanced Certificate
Levels 4, 5, 6
Certificate in Advanced Reading
& Writing Levels 7, 8
NOTE:
You must successfully
complete 3 classes in each level in order to earn your certificate and you can
earn more than one certificate. It is highly recommended that you take the classes
in consecutive semesters for maximum benefit.

RWV 07 Writing for Advanced Non-Native
Speakers of English $100
Sat 10am-12pm Jan 30-Mar 20
Designed for non-native English speakers, this class will help
you to improve your writing skills and focus on standard form
and style as well as correct grammatical structures. There will
be many opportunities to write practice essays and receive
individual feedback on written drafts.
RWV 55 English Conversation $100
Mon 7-9pm Jan 25-Mar 22
This is an intermediate to advanced course for those who wish
to practice their speaking skills. Led by an experienced teacher,
you will maximize your speaking time, make short speeches,
and take turns leading groups. This is excellent practice for
those who do not have much practice in speaking English.
RTP 99 TOEFL: Preparation for the Test of
English as a Foreign Language (T) $100

For advanced English as a Second Language students, this
course focuses on the TOEFL exam, a requirement for
graduates of secondary schools in foreign nations whose first
language is not English and who wish to apply for admission
to colleges and universities nationwide. Through a
combination of classroom activities, home assignments, and
listening comprehension exercises, you will concentrate on
examination content, and learn strategies for test taking.
CCC 35 Free ESL and Food Handler Certificate
For Qualified Applicants.
This program incorporates Serv-Safe Certification, covering
health and safety during hands-on food preparation. Extensive
review Sessions are aimed at preparing the student for the
food handler’s certification exams. This course is divided into
kitchen and classroom sessions. A certifying exam will be given
immediately upon completion of the local regulations training.
Course modules include food handling, sanitation, microorganisms,
personal hygiene, selecting and purchasing of
various types of food, storage, preparation and food protection, principles of hazard analysis critical control points
system, facilities and equipment. Food service, culinary and
equipment terminology, stock, soups and sauces and manning
professional chef’s station are also included.
