KCC takes the safety and well being of our students, faculty and staff very seriously, and we are working closely with The City University of New York and the New York City Office of Emergency Management to maintain vigilance and preparedness regarding the H1N1 virus. Here are four important ways students, faculty, and staff can stay healthy and keep from getting sick with flu or spreading the flu:
- Practice good hand hygiene. If soap and water is not available, alcohol-based hand cleaners are also effective.
- Practice respiratory etiquette. It is important that people cover their mouth and nose with a tissue or cough or sneeze into their elbow or shoulder.
- Stay home if you are sick. Remain home for at least 24 hours after you are free of fever without the use of fever-reducing medicines.
- Talk to your health care provider about whether you should be vaccinated.
Vaccine Information:
- Seasonal flu vaccine: Students interested in obtaining this vaccine can find a convenient location by going to www.cuny.edu/flu and accessing the link FLU VACCINATION LOCATOR. There is no charge to students for this vaccine.
- Novel H1N1 vaccine: CDC recommendations are for the H1N1 vaccine to be administered to priority groups such as healthcare workers, children and youth ages six months to 25, and pregnant women. Any student under age 24 can receive a free H1N1 vaccine citywide. Locations can be found by calling 311 or by going to www.cuny.edu/flu . For weekend sites, click on “find a weekend vaccine clinic”.
