Collegiate Science and Technology Entry Program

The Biology Collegiate Science & Technology Entry Program (CSTEP) is funded by the New York State Education Department and is designed to;

1) increase historically underrepresented and economically disadvantaged student awareness of the biological sciences as career options,and

2) to increase the numbers of these students who complete pre-professional or professional education programs of study that lead to licensure in CSTEP-targeted professions.

At Kingsborough Community College, CSTEP supports students who are pursuing degrees in one of the following degree programs:

A.S. Biology, A.S. Biology Pharmacy Transfer Option, A.S. Biology Occupational Therapy Transfer Option, A.S. Pre-Physicians Assistant Concentration and A.A.S. Physical Therapist Assistant. The program fosters a cooperative learning environment with support services that enhance each student's academic growth and professional potential.

 CSTEP provides these comprehensive support services to its students:

Individual and group tutoring.
Academic and career planning.
Program planning.
Career seminars and guest speakers.
Special skill development workshops.
Research internship opportunities.
Supplemental books and study resources.
Visits to scientific, industrial, and health care facilities.
Opportunities to present research at national and statewide conferences.


For the purpose of CSTEP, individuals historically underrepresented in the scientific, technical, health related, and licensed professions are *African-American, Hispanic/Latino, Native American or Alaskan Native.
A student is economically disadvantaged if he or she meets the eligibility requirements defined by New York guidelines. Documentation confirming economically disadvantaged status is required ONLY for students who are NOT African-American, Hispanic/Latino, Native American or Alaskan Native.
Students must be in good academic standing and enrolled full time in one of the degree programs listed above.
