EDUCATION PROGRAM

Welcome to the Education Program!

The Education Program at Kingsborough Community College prepares students for careers in a variety of roles in early childhood and elementary settings. Students will learn about pedagogic theory and practice, and develop their skills by working directly with children in educational settings. Such experiences are not only rewarding in themselves, but some students have also received job offers as a result! In addition, our programs are directly connected with senior CUNY colleges to provide a smooth transition for completion of a bachelor’s degree.

Our philosophy of education, here at Kingsborough, is that the educator functions as a catalyst for children to construct knowledge in an enriched and nurturing environment. We value play and consider it integral to fostering a lifelong love of learning. Through experience and reflection, we develop our future educators to meet the diverse needs of children.

Writing Intensive Courses and Civic Engagement

As part of this commitment to prepare our students to become future teachers, the college incorporates avenues of practice directly into the graduation requirements, including taking Writing Intensive Courses (WIC) and participating in Civic Engagement (CE). The Education Program facilitates a smooth fulfillment of these requirements by integrating them directly into the coursework. In each of the majors, a number of classes are designated writing intensive. Our professors also maintain partnerships with a variety of organizations to create civic engagement opportunities at sites such as edible gardens, soup kitchens, nursing homes, and art galleries.

Kingsborough has a great deal to offer! We invite you to explore our Education Program, by watching our video below and browsing our website.
