Q: How many subjects am I allowed to receive tutoring in during the semester?
A: You can receive tutoring in up to 2 subjects per semester and a total of 4 hours per week (2 hours per subject).
Q: How is tutoring assigned?
A: Students are placed with a tutor based on the student’s availability and on a first come first serve basis.
Q: Is the tutoring offered individually or in a group setting?
A: Kingsborough Learning Center Tutors: Students are placed in a small group setting, usually 3-4 students per group.
Q: Is there an attendance policy?
A: Yes. If a student is absent 2 consecutive times or 3 random times, the student will be dropped from tutoring. It is in the student’s best interest to call 718-368-5118 to provide a valid reason for their absence in advance.
Q: Can I cancel a tutoring session?
A: Yes. If you no longer need the tutoring, or you need to switch to a different time, you can cancel and change your appointment.
Q: Who are the tutors?
A: For most subjects, the tutor will be a current or former KBCC student who received a grade of an A in the course they are tutoring. However, in certain subjects the tutor will be a professor. Our tutors are trained to support students in the exploration of the subject matter. They are required to meet strict qualifications and are evaluated each semester to ensure they are providing high quality assistance.
Q: Is there a deadline during the semester to sign-up for tutoring?
A: No. You can sign-up for tutoring throughout the entire semester. We do advise students to sign-up early in the semester, as sessions and times can fill up.
Q: What are the hours tutoring is available?
A: The Kingsborough Learning Center tutoring schedule is:
- Fall & Spring Hours:
- Monday-Thursday 9:00 AM - 8:00 PM
- Friday 9:00 AM - 4:00 PM
- Winter & Summer Hours:
- Monday-Thursday 9:00 AM - 6:00 PM
