Does Reading Matter?
To explore this question, please join facilitator Tracy Steffy (History, Philosophy, and Political Science) to interrogate the challenges we’ve all experienced in trying to get students to read, and read well, in our classes.
In this FIG, we will read scholarship in literacy studies and in the teaching of reading across the curriculum with the the goal of convening a community of teachers who are invested in fostering critical reading in their classes.
This FIG is organized by the Faculty Initiative on Teaching Reading (FITR), and readings for the FIG will be selected based on the speakers for FITR’s upcoming spring symposium, “Does Reading Matter?: Purposes and Possibilities for Reading in College.”
