An Overview of Liberal Arts

The Liberal Arts have been around for a very long time and continues to be one of the most popular majors among community college students today.

Why? Because it’s traditional and historic yet current and modern.
Why? Because it’s great for transferring to a four year college.
Why? Because it makes you a well-rounded person for the workplace.

What do you study in a Liberal Arts major?
Answer:  Liberal Arts is like a quilt – a patchwork of knowledge from a variety of areas.

It’s learning about things that have made us creative such as:

  • Art                             
  • Theater
  •  Music
  • Media
  • Film

It’s learning about our history such as in:

  • World History
  • American History
  • Anthropology

It’s learning about how we express ourselves such as in:

  • Literature
  • Speech

It’s learning about thinking and posing questions about our world such as in:

  • Philosophy

It’s learning about how we interact with one another and how our minds work such as in:

  • Sociology
  • Psychology

It’s about the world of politics such as in:

  • American Politics

NOTE: Your exact plan of study includes different courses depending on when you came into Kingsborough or changed your major and what concentration you choose.
