In preparation for the re-accreditation visit to Kingsborough by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education, which took place in March, 2006, the college prepared a comprehensive institutional self-study. The specific areas of focus included: The college mission, goals, and objectives; planning, resources allocation, and institutional renewal; institutional resources; leadership and governance; administration; integrity; institutional assessment; student admissions; student support services; faculty; educational offerings; general education; related educational activities; and assessment of student learning. These areas correspond with the Middle States Commission on Higher Education's Characteristics of Excellence.

Following the preparation of the self-study, the College was visited by a team of educators from peer colleges across the Middle States region, who evaluated whether KCC met each of fourteen standards representing characteristics of excellence, and drafted recommendations for improvement of student learning outcomes and institutional effectiveness. In her oral exit report, the chair of the team indicated that, in their judgment, Kingsborough met all fourteen standards.

At its session on June 22, 2006, the Middle States Commission on Higher Education acted to reaffirm Kingsborough’s accreditation and to commend the institution for progress to date and for the quality of the self-study process. It also requested a progress letter, due by March 1, 2008 documenting: (1) evidence that direct methods of assessing student learning are being used to improve teaching and learning , and (2) evidence that student learning assessment information is used as part of institutional assessment. A Periodic Review Report is due June 1, 2011 and the next self-study and evaluation visit are scheduled for 2015-2016. Please address all comments, suggestions, and questions to:
