  All About The Loan

There are three type of loans available:

Direct Lending
The William D. Ford Federal Direct Loan Program
The William D. Ford Federal Direct Loan Program is a program which can provide you with a loan based upon a determination made by the Kingsborough Financial Aid Office. You only borrow what you need; no banks are involved, and your loan is never sold. You have greater flexibility in repaying your Direct Loan, than you would with other types of loans, including repayment based upon your ability to repay (income contingent provision). There is never a fee charged to you at any time during the life of the loan.

First-time borrowers must complete entrance counseling for borrowers before an actual loan application is submitted or processed by the Financial Aid Office. In addition, you must apply for Pell and TAP which must be processed before your loan application will be considered. You may apply on-line by first registering at: https://portal.cuny.edu/cms/id/cuny/documents/informationpage/006373.htm

Parent Loans are available for parents to borrow on behalf of their children to pay for undergraduate college expenses. A parent may borrow the difference between the Cost of Attendance and all other student aid received by the student.

Federal Perkins Loan
A Federal Perkins Loan is a low-interest (five percent) loan for students with exceptional financial need. Kingsborough is the lender. The loan is made with government funds with a share contributed by Kingsborough. You must repay this loan to Kingsborough. Depending on when you accept the loan, your level of need, and Kingsborough’s funding level, you can borrow up to $3,000 for each year of undergraduate study with a maximum of $15,000 during your academic career. Other limits apply to graduate or professional study.
