- Established in 1985, New Start was developed as a program to assist students who have experienced academic difficulty at one of the 27 participating colleges.
- New Start students are offered specialized counseling and targeted academic advisement designed to assist students in overcoming previous difficulties and working toward future success.
- Since its inception, 15,000 students have resumed their education by means of this program.
- New Start students are admitted to Kingsborough as students in good academic standing.
- Past grades are not carried over into Kingsborough’s G.P.A.; only the new grades earned are included in the Kingsborough G.P.A.
- Each student can transfer up to 30 credits to Kingsborough (almost half the credits needed to earn an associate’s degree)
- Once a New Start student graduates from Kingsborough, he/she is guaranteed admission to a CUNY college.
- New Start students have also been accepted at many SUNY colleges and private colleges.
