Honors Representatives are a selected group of up to 25 students who participate in on-campus, local, regional, national, and international enrichment activities and events, and serve as outstanding examples of the academic, service and leadership opportunities that a Kingsborough education can provide. After being trained as an Honors Rep, students are placed with mentors in various areas of the college and are provided a $500 stipend for the 50 hours of work that they are expected to perform. The Honors Representative Program is co-coordinated by Prof. Rosemary Bufano (Hospitality and Tourism Dept., V226) and Prof. Wendy Shatzman-Sherry (Communications and Performing Arts Dept., E330).
G.P.A. of 3.40 or higher based on 12 or more credits and the ability to maintain this level of academic excellence while participating in the program.
Eloquent speaking and writing skills and a willingness to work on strengthening them.
Excellent time-management skills.
Capable of working cooperatively with others.
Strong interpersonal skills.
One day of required training which focuses on dressing for success, social etiquette, and public speaking.
One to two workshops per term on improving written communication, especially thank you notes, personal statement, and scholarship essays.
Required personal assessment coaching consultation with program coordinators.
Participation in two or more college events each term that require student representation, such as Homecoming, Honors Program Open Houses, KCC Admissions Office Events, Best-selling Authors Series, KCC College Foundation events, and public hearings or political events.
Work with a faculty or staff member in a mentor/mentee relationship for approx. 50 hours per semester (3-5 hrs. per week) and receive compensation of up to $500 per term.

A training workshop will take place once a year in May followed by an induction dinner the following week at a date and time to be announced.
