Honors Program Requirements:
- Students must maintain a 3.2 GPA average or better throughout their KCC academic career;
- Students must earn 9 honors credits with a grade of B+ or better in the course and on the honors work;
- Students must complete an Honors Program Capstone Essay. Please see below for more information.
Honors Program - Presidential Scholars Requirements:
- Students must maintain a 3.5 GPA average or better throughout their KCC academic career;
- Students must earn 18 honors credits with a grade of B+ or better in their courses and on their honors work;
- Students must complete an Honors Program Capstone Essay. Please see below for more information.
- Students must complete at least nine hours of documented community service, civic engagement, or KCC-related service. This requirement may be fulfilled by documented extracurricular participation in a civic engagement course, active participation in KCC campus-wide events, Phi Theta Kappa service, or by serving as an Honors Ambassador.
Honors Program Capstone Essay
The Honors Program Capstone Essay offers students the opportunity to reflect on their scholarly experiences and synthesize those experiences into a culminating discussion about the scholarly texts and themes that have been critical to their growth and development.
In preparing the capstone essay, students need to identify 5-10 scholarly works that have been central to their development as students at Kingsborough.
The Capstone Essay asks students to:
- describe the central themes of the texts and/or works of their choosing,
- describe how those works influenced them as individuals and scholars
- explain how these texts shaped their plans for the future
Capstone essays must be at least 4-5 double-spaced pages excluding the bibliography and submitted the semester of anticipated graduation. The bibliography may also include non-textual material such as fine art and photography, performance pieces, films, musical compositions, and sound recordings.
