Event: Decoding the Disciplines Faculty Interest Group Date: November 03, 2008 Time: 1:50 - 2:50 p.m. Phone: 718-368-5252 Location: KCTL: M391 Conference Room Description: • Facilitated by Marissa Schlesinger (Art) and Loretta Brancaccio-Taras (Biological Sciences), this group will, using the methodology introduced in Winter 2007 by Joan Middendorf, grapple with the idea of “expert thinking” within disciplines and how we can teach our students to think like experts. At each meeting, one or two participants will be interviewed by the others in order to articulate how they, as experts, approach and understand issues that often lead to student “bottlenecks.” The DtD faculty interest group meets about 3 times throughout the course of the semester.
