CUNY Start

What is CUNY Start?

CUNY Start at Kingsborough Community College is a low-cost, intensive program for students who have been accepted to the Kingsborough Community College, but are not ready for college-level work based on their scores on the CUNY Assessment tests. CUNY Start offers rigorous, semester long academic preparation in math and/or reading and writing. In addition, participants receive academic advisement and develop skills to help them succeed in college.

CUNY Start offers both a full time program for students who have math and reading and/or writing needs, and a part time program for students who have math or reading and writing needs. After successfully completing the course, students have two opportunities to retake the placement exams. The program costs only $75 per semester, including all books and materials, and allows students to save their financial aid for credit courses.

All interested students must attend an information session in order to apply to the program. Information sessions are offered every Tuesday and Thursday at 2pm in the T4 building, room 4112. Call 718.368.4500 or email cunystart@kbcc.cuny.edu if you have questions.
