Charise Chapman, currently a Mental Health and Human Services major, participated in the Service-learning Student Leaders (SL2) Program.
The program goal is to allow student ambassadors to examine the different factors that cause the achievement gap and identify ways in which service-learning and civic engagement can begin to address these issues over the course of the next academic year.
Another goal is to provide these ambassadors the tools necessary to achieve success through mentoring, professional development, and taking part in a national dialogue surrounding a pivotal issue such as the achievement gap.
As a culmination of this summer project, Charise presented to High School youth at the 6th Annual National Urban Service-Learning Institute in Philadelphia, PA in August 2009. She will continue her SL2 duties through the 2009-2010 academic year.
