CAUCUS CUNY SCHOLARS – SPRING 2018

DESCRIPTION: The City University of New York is proud to offer an exciting Spring internship opportunity in New York City for a select number of CUNY students.  The Program will be coordinated by the Edward T. Rogowsky Internship Program in Government & Public Affairs and a Campus Faculty Coordinator at each of the City University's colleges. The New York State Black, Puerto Rican, Hispanic & Asian Legislative Caucus City University of New York Scholars Program will provide highly qualified individuals the opportunity to learn by doing in the district offices (in NYC) of state legislators that comprise the membership on the Caucus.  Once selected, participating students will learn first-hand how New York State government serves the needs of diverse communities around the City of New York.

The Caucus CUNY Scholars Program is a local internship program for students who are interested in the workings of the New York State Legislature. The Program enables students to learn about the work performed by the Black, Puerto Rican, Hispanic & Asian Legislative Caucus, as well as the services provided by the State Legislature to communities of color and need in and around the City of New York.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS: The Program is open to any student who has completed 30 credits by the beginning of the Spring 2018 term.  Any major may apply, but students who wish to be considered should demonstrate an interest in state government and politics.

INTERNSHIP PLACEMENTS: Interns will serve up to 10-15 hours per week for the duration of the semester. Placement will be in the New York City offices of Black, Puerto Rican, Hispanic & Asian Legislative Caucus Members (NYS Assembly and NYS Senate).

APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS: Students must submit a resume and at least 2 confidential faculty recommendation forms along with their application. Visit C-102 to speak with an Internship Advisor.

STIPEND AND/OR ACADEMIC CREDIT: Each student will receive a $2,000 award. All Caucus CUNY Scholars will participate in the Program's academic component, which consists of weekly seminar meetings with their Campus Faculty Coordinator, as well as seminars with members of the Legislative Caucus, faculty, and others. In addition, each student will draft a scholarly research paper and a written log consisting of internship experiences and analysis for their Campus Faculty Coordinator.

Credits should be arranged by students with their Campus Faculty Coordinator.  All credit arrangements should be made prior to the first day of the Caucus CUNY Scholars Program.
