Daylight Saving Time (DST) Dear College Community,
The United States Congress passed the Energy Policy Act in September 2005 which alters the beginning and ending dates of daylight saving time (DST), which will start three weeks earlier (i.e., 2:00 A.M. on the second Sunday in March) and will end one week later (i.e., 2:00 A.M. on the first Sunday in November) than what had traditionally occurred. The date of initiation for DST will be 2:00 AM Sunday March 11, 2007 local time to your time zone. Office of Information Technology Services has been working round the clock to ensure that all the Servers, Server Operating System, Network equipment, main frame printers, desktops and desktop operating systems are patched to prepare for the DST changes, but with any operation of this nature there is bound to be something that will get missed, we will like to request your cooperation, patience and forbearance in allowing ITS to help fix these minor issues and bugs next week. We will be assigning extra staff to the Helpdesk to take your calls and fix issues as well as answer any questions you may have regarding DST changes. Below I am listing some sites and fixes from Microsoft for taking care of your home systems and personal phones, PDA's and other devices. We will request that you do not try to apply these patches on your office system(S) since they already have been patched and might create unnecessary problems. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hardware There is no hardware or BIOS impact, workstations, desktops and notebooks as a result of this DST change. However, the Operating System (OS) will be impacted, and your OS vendors may have a solutions in place. Contact your OS vendor for the most up-to-date information on implementing updates based on the DST change. How to get Operating System Updates The information provided here was pulled from external vendor websites and notifications around the DST change. We recommend you work directly with these OS vendors to get the updates you need for your systems. Windows Microsoft has producing an update for Microsoft products affected by the new United States Daylight Saving Time transition dates.
