Carmona, M.D., M.P.H., FACS, 17th Surgeon General of the United States, for promoting the health and wellness of our academic community as well as our nation,

Whereas the Council is predicated on the belief that higher education opportunity is a viable pathway to personal, career and renowned accomplishments,

Whereas Richard H. Carmona, M.D. bears this truth and serves as its archetypal ambassador,

Whereas the professional and academic training of Richard H. Carmona, M.D. set a path towards improving the health and wellness of our academic community and our nation,

Let it be known that the Council of City University of New York Chairpersons for Health, Physical Education, Recreation, Dance, Gerontology & Nutritional Sciences proudly presents its 2006-2007 Recognition of Excellence Award to Richard H. Carmona., M.D.., MPH., FACS, 17th Surgeon General of the

On June 1, 2007 at a breakfast at Bronx Community College, the Council of CUNY Chairpersons of Health Physical Education Recreation, Dance, Gerontology and the Nutritional Sciences presented its 2006-2007 Annual Award to Dr. Richard Carmona MD, MPh, FACS, and the 17th Surgeon General of the United States. Dr. Carmona accepting plaque A plaque was presented to the Surgeon General by Dr. Samuel Scherek, Chairman of the Health, Physical Education and Recreation Department of Kingsborough Community College and President of the CUNY Council and Dr. Phillip Bel Castro, Chairman of the Health Education Department at Borough of Manhattan Community College and Vice President of the CUNY Council. Event was held at BCC. Surgeon General Carmona was cited for promoting the Health and Wellness of our academic community as well as our nation. Dr. Scherek presented the Surgeon General with two Kingsborough Community College T-Shirts which Dr. Carmona said, he would be proud to wear during his workouts President Williams of Bronx Community College and Dr. Carmona joined by Dr Scherek and Dr. Bel Castro. The Council thanks Pres. Williams for having the function on her campus.
