Teachers are introduced to Spanish language fundamentals. Development
of basic conversational ability, grammar patterns, understanding
writing and reading through intensive practice in the classroom.
Language lab drills use computer software, audio-visual and musical
materials. Exploration of the different approaches for teaching
Spanish to children, and teaching Spanish-speaking children. OPEN

71 -- Puerto Rican Folklore (3 crs. 3 hrs.)
Study of the folkloric expressions of the Puerto Rican people
in sundry forms - literary, musical, esoteric beliefs, etc., exploring
their sources and development as influenced by all three historical
cultural groups in Puerto Rico: the Native American Indian, European
Spanish, and black African. The course will delve into their influence
on present-day Puerto Rico. Instruction is in Spanish and
English.

Exploration of the culture of Latin America through film.
AI films are subtitled in English and the course will be taught

Independent study of Spanish is developed individually between
student and faculty member and must be approved by the Department.
Spa 82 -- (1-3 crs. 1-3 hrs.)
This course is of a topical and pilot nature and is designed to
meet the immediate needs and interests of various student populations.
It is offered for a maximum of two semesters.
