Everything looks bright for spring 2010

Endeshia Bryan

As we begin to exit summer and soon welcome in the Fall we've already received a glimpse of spring. Spring fashion that is. During the first several weeks of September the greats of the fashion world all came together under the tents at Bryant Park for the ultimate fashion event of the Fall. FASHION WEEK!
Over 60 designers displayed their masterpieces in New York which is one of the major fashion capitols in the world. Designers such as Oscar de la Renta, Marc Jacobs, Zac Posen and my favorite of the season Eric Kim are some of the few greats that bedazzled us with their impeccable collections. Oscar de la Renta brightened up the runway with very vibrant multicolored pieces that were accompanied by some very bold and beautiful accessories. His evening gowns were the highlight of his collection. The very feminine and elegant gowns blessed the runway with such grace as the models eased down their paths.

This exuberant splash of color did not end after Mr. De La Renta, it also made its appearance when the fresh and fun collection Marc by Marc Jacobs took the runway. Marc by Marc Jacobs youthful collection that in some ways reflects 80's fashion was very eclectic. It had spots, dots, plaids, and stripes, and all these fun filled pieces were topped in a bow, literally. Every model who hit the runway was wearing a big bow headband. This added character to the young hip 80's look that every model successfully portrayed. While some designer collections are still inspired by the 80's, Zac Posen objects to the trend. He says "No 80's. We're living twenty years later." If that statement didn’t reveal his passion against the 80's then his line of clothing definitely will. Posen's line consisted of a variety of different colors. From pinks, to greens,to mustard yellows, to blues and one very chic black dress. His feminine pieces display great maturity. It had texture, color, print, embellishment and more importantly, his personal creativity.

Creativity is the number one ingredient in any recipe for fashion. At least that’s what I thought until Eric Kim, the designer of Monarchy Collection proved me wrong.
With his extraordinary collection he has proven that simplicity can be the most important ingredient needed to cook-up a great and successful collection. The Monarchy Collection is actually my favorite of the season. While most designers focused on color, patterns, texture, and big and bold jewelry, Eric Kim constructed a very sleek, chic, and clean line that can easily be worn to a very high end event or even on the go for daily routines. His very simplistic designs promote comfort in a women's everyday wear. My favorite number was the high waisted brown pant paired with a blue cropped button up top that was accessorized with a simple necklace and a pair of hip pale yellow shades. The biggest event of September has come to an end but it will not be forgotten. Who would be able to forget Oscar de la Renta's grace, matched by Zac Posen's creativity, sprinkled with Eric Kim's simplicity all stirred up and wrapped in a bow by Marc by Marc Jacobs.
