On August 6, 2009, Kingsborough students Charise Chapman and Chris Vasquez presented to a captive audience at the Annual National Service-Learning Urban Institute held in Philadelphia, PA. The workshop titled, “Connecting the Dots from K-12 to Higher Ed: Making the Transition Through Service”, encouraged more participation in student-led service-learning initiatives in higher education. An emphasis was placed laying the foundation in primary and secondary education, students learned about tools they can use to engage other students on college campuses. The understanding is that students will be more ready to become leaders in college if they begin as soon as possible.
