Welcome to the Center for Civic Engagement
The Center for Civic Engagement identifies and cultivates opportunities for Kingsborough students, faculty, and staff to engage the community and the world through scholarship, active service, and meaningful leadership. The Center connects Kingsborough’s faculty and students with each other and community partners.

President's Message

In the fall of 2008, we set a course to begin looking at ways in which Kingsborough can provide opportunities that encourage our students to actively examine issues of our society through diverse, valuable and innovative educational experiences. This website is an outgrowth of our efforts, and therefore, it is with great pleasure that I welcome you to our virtual Center for Civic Engagement.

Whether you are a student, faculty or friend of KCC, I urge you to take some time to explore the site. Here you will be able to see the range of activities and opportunities representing and supporting civic engagement at Kingsborough. You will learn about resources for both faculty and students. You will find recognition of work done by members of our community. You will find video clips of student activities and service learning courses. You will learn of upcoming events on and off campus and news relating to civic engagement both on and off campus. You can also send us your ideas and suggestions for civic engagement activities.

In time, you will be able to visit the office for the Center for Civic Engagement. For now, however, please frequent this space as you seek to engage with our world. I look forward to the principles of civic engagement becoming a hallmark of our mission at Kingsborough.

Dr. Regina S. Peruggi

What is Civic Engagement?
Civic Engagement at Kingsborough Community College is defined as acting on our mutual responsibility to care for each other in the college, in our communities, and on our planet. Kingsborough accepts as a fundamental principle that education requires both an acceptance of social responsibility and active participation in meeting the challenges of a modern society. This responsibility is borne out through political activity, community service, engagement in leadership roles, advocacy and becoming informed on issues which relate to social change.
